Portland, OR quartet Norska deliver an eponymous five-track, 40-minute sojourn chock full of slow churned sludgy psychedelic metal goodness (“Nobody One Knows”). Building a massive sound with hypnotic riffs and gradual dynamic shifts, Norska champions their dastardly set of doom metal nuances with a menacing conviction that allows listeners to properly commiserate with the band’s excruciating exertion of agonizing abrasiveness (“Two Coins for the Ferryman”). Able to hold attention spans despite song running times going past the 10-minute mark, Norska has created an oppressive and ominous collection of tunes that falls somewhere in between the mindbending nature of Neurosis and the howling fury of High on Fire. -MikeSOS
