It's ok to bang your head to this CD, but don't dare lump Labyrinth into the power metal category, as this Italian quintet may be miscategorized. While the band employs many of the galloping rhythms and creates the type of fist pumping anthems that make power metal all the rage amongst festivals in Europe, this veteran outfit also throws in some thrash and progressive rock elements in its music. In fact, it's all here; the keyboard overlays, the powerful vocal delivery, the shredding guitars, and the manic drumming, all of the stuff that makes a fine metal release, despite what it's labeled as. Check out the supercharged and pristine six-minute "Slave to the Night" for a lesson in Euro Metal 101, and you'll discover just how good Labyrinth really is.
