DEATH VALLEY DRIVER
CHOKE THE RIVER
Canadian unit Death Valley Driver combines swampy sludge metal with bouts of metalcore tenacity on their eight-track affair CHOKE THE RIVER. Crushingly heavy, this squad pulls no punches when delivering a balls to the wall vocals and nasty riff tandem that keeps necks snapping, chock full of groove derived from the likes of Down, COC, and Hatebreed. This troupe demonstrates an unquestionable and well-executed heaviness, yet their overall presentation lacks the originality of the aforementioned, hindering the band from making the deviations from the formula in their songwriting necessary to really make an impact. Nonetheless, Death Valley Driver provides a perfect middle ground between Black Label Society and Devildriver with a whole lotta NOLA influence for extra flavor.
