L’ORDURE A L’ETAT PUR
French black metal unit Peste Noire pushes the boundaries of avant-garde on their latest five-track affair L’ORDURE A L’ETAT PUR. Clocking in at 60 minutes, this album schizophrenically morphs its misanthropic black metal roar into a plethora of off the wall musical diversions from operatic female vocals to accordion-based carnival music, creating an intriguing yet disjointed flow bound to alienate purists from the get-go. Add in an adventurous set of vocals that stray far from the left hand path and it’s pretty much a guarantee that this unorthodox outfit will receive a polarizing reaction from the hordes of the netherworld. Nevertheless, Peste Noire does deliver a bevy of black metal malaise within their cinematically ready long, strange trips through the forests and the tundra but not nearly enough to rise above the novelty act ranks.
