Canadian duo Nadja have quite an extensive catalog for a band that has been around since 2003, making their latest five-track offering DESIRE IN UNEASINESS (their ninth release THIS YEAR!) yet another feather in the tandem's cap. This drone-metal affair is heavily steeped in repetition, as dueling guitars play in a loop with deliberate drum beats throughout the duration of this near 60-minute presentation. Adding in a live drummer helps the band's atmosphere by shedding some of the unnatural vibes, giving tracks like "Sign-Expressions" a bit more organic feel. Nadja however pays more attention to finding the doomy, dirgey, dreamy middleground for sounds to bounce off of on "Affective Fields", making adventurous atmospheric music for those in favor of a little bit of mind expanding.
