Austrian melodeath meets metalcore troupe Trashcanned seem to have the right idea, leaning on Arch Enemy and Children of Bodom for inspiration for their 11-track disc REDEMPTION. Solos are crisp, and despite the terrible sound quality (the drums are especially awful), these songs provide competent moments of headbanging thanks in part to some killer riffs ("Heartbeat") and a vocalist whose mix of growls and barks keeps it visceral, even when a float keyboard riff appears. However, this sextet tends to follow the metalcore by numbers book a bit too closely, making their identity as hard to decipher as some of the singer's feral grunts, rendering Trashcanned's sturdy but way too formulaic attack a bit flat.
