The crusty black metal duo known as N.I.L. radiate malevolence with haunting conviction on its eponymous eight-track debut. With an authentic stripped-down lo-fi production and a captivating eeriness permeating through the mid-tempo madness of tracks like "Here I Find No Shelter", this disc's overall bleak aura smothers with gloom and doom. Hypnotically-charged and deliberately spooky sans an intriguing Big Black cover ("Bad Houses"), N.I.L. manage to uncover deep-rooted feelings of despair and sorrow from the soul's recesses with a ghoulish shrill and swirling rhythms laden with pain leading the way.
