On the 12-track CINEMATOGRAPHIC, this Springfield, IL quintet gets bumped up to the A-squad, as The Junior Varsity's latest disc displays a substantial growth for the outfit. Tracks like the acoustic guitar dinner music feel of "Memory Made Easy" and the early years of Steely Dan vibe emitted by the title cut demonstrates this band is capable of more than pop-rock cleverness, while "Wunderdrug" confirms this unit's solid songwriting chops that fall somewhere in the pop-rock-punk spectrum of modern rock. By not playing overly heartwrenching nor unbearably mournful yet emotionally-charged rock, The Junior Varsity have created a sturdy bunch of tunes that can carry over past sophomore year of high school that combine the stylishness of Maroon 5 with the hook-happy swing of Say Anything.
