Long Island hardcore crew This is Hell utilize a much broader scope of influence than their multi-layered hardcore scenster peers, as a listen of this crafty outfit's latest release SUNDOWNING would suggest. This band, comprised of vets of Long Island hardcore, jump from Comeback Kid-esque bounciness on "Nobody Leaves Without Singing the Blues" to the snarl of Sick of It All on "Retrospect". Showcasing the wide array of angry yet melodic hardcore they can churn out, tracks like "Epilogue" and the infectious "Here Comes the Rains" are turned inside out of shards of Snapcase, American Nightmare, and Ignite and then translated with an unmistakably Long Island hardcore accent a la Glassjaw across the 13-track endeavor, even taking the moody angst of bands like Bleeding Kansas and Modern Life is War to heart on "The Absentee Ballot". Providing a strong mix of highly energetic, boldly exclaimed, and slickly produced hardcore, purists will hate this, but their little brothers will be throwing roundhouses to it by the end of the summer.
