SOCIAL HERO
SOCIAL HERO
MACHINE DREAM

The lushly arranged yet rough around the edges hard rock of NYC’s Social Hero makes for an interesting blend, as the quartet’s five-track self-titled release showcases. With a strong emphasis on vocals, songs like the tribal chorus meets straight ahead hook of “Adore (W/ a Bullet)” is akin to a hard rock version of the current wave of pop-punk anthems flooding the teenage airwaves, while the bass-driven groove, Geddy Lee-esque singing, and choppy dynamics on “Break it Down” give this quintet its most defining moment on disc. Combining Audioslave, Coheed and Cambria, and fragments of ‘70s progressive and arena rock into its unique sound, Social Hero spans a good portion of hard rock, and does so with panache.
