DIVIDE THE DAY
PRETTY GIRLS WITH UGLY BOYS
Screamo crew Divide the Day’s 14-track release find the upstarts ripe for the Warped Tour, as this Southern California quintet’s sound falls somewhere between The Used, Taking Back Sunday, and Lostprophets. Tracks like the somber “Those We Love the Most, Never Truly Leave Us” exhibit the band’s softer, more introspective side, while the raucous “My Yellow Pages Girl” suggests that theses guys know a lot more than their prayers. Using the sing/scream method throughout the entire disc does get a bit weary, but they make up for it with chaotic exchanges like the ones found on the skate rock of “Totally Outrageous Por Favor” and the Everytime I Die-esque ode to Sin City “Vegas Baby Vegas”. PRETTY GIRLS WITH UGLY BOYS is by no means a groundbreaking release, but it does showcase a band that merges punk, hardcore, and screamo well enough to keep the crowd intrigued.
