IN ALCATRAZ 1962
THE DRIVE
STANDBY

Virginia quartet In Alcatraz 1962 dole out a heavy-handed modern metal hybrid on their 12-track release THE DRIVE. Culling their sound from a bottomless barrage of metalcore melodies from the likes of Killswitch Engage and All That Remains (“Over These Years”), borrowed and beaten melodic death metal histrionics, deathcore studio trickery (“The Fatal Flaw”), and hellbent second-wave hardcore aggression (“Still Strong”), this unit mixes just enough intriguing rhythmic nuances and fancy fretwork in with streams of standardized burly breakdowns and bare knuckle brawl chugging to assist them to sound a bit more well rounded than many other bands in the ever-growing crowd who employ similar tactics (“Winter Sun”). -MikeSOS
