THE FORESHADOWING
SECOND WORLD
METAL BLADE

Italy’s The Foreshadowing encompass a somber and woebegone mix of Gothic and doom metal on their 10-track endeavor SECOND WORLD. Atmospheric keyboards set the mood at melancholy while a mammoth bass and drum presence keeps the aura ominous yet slightly majestic, making more than enough room for the tandem of ethereally tortured lead vocals (“Ground Zero”) and layers of weeping guitar to drive a stake into the blackened hearts of listeners (“The Forsaken Son”). Discernibly dark yet lacking any true hooks to latch onto, this sextet executes their foreboding music well but would definitely benefit from a stronger sense of dynamics in their songwriting to avoid falling into the same monotonous and plodding metallic pitfalls next time around. -Mike SOS
