BLOOD CEREMONY
BLOOD CEREMONY
METAL BLADE

The eponymous 2008 reissue from Canada’s Blood Ceremony is a retro metal feast for the ears, complete with harrowing waves of organ, nature loving flute galore, haunting female lead vocals, and of course, undertones of evil found in every Iommi-influenced riff (“Return to Forever”) and occult-friendly lyric. This quartet administers a vintage demonstration of early ‘70s heavy metal at its most mysterious with the attention for creating an ominous mood overshadowing the entire affair (“Hymn to Pan”). If you could have assembled Jethro Tull, Jefferson Airplane, and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown for a trip-inducing jam session, the nine-track output from Blood Ceremony comes pretty close to replicating what that fantastic combination may have sounded like. -Mike SOS
