BARN BURNER
BANGERS II: SCUM OF THE EARTH
METAL BLADE

Barn Burner’s sophomore effort is aptly titled BANGERS II: SCUM OF THE EARTH for both logistics and style, as the aura this Canadian quartet commandeers picks right up where their debut affair left off. Chock full of doom-y stoner rock grooves with a classic metal foundation leading to thrash metal aspirations, this squad is all too eager to share their bongload of hard-edged rock ‘n roll with a melodic snarl that falls somewhere between the sludgy structures of Melvins, the off-kilter metal of CKY and the polish of Thin Lizzy (“Quest for the Cube”). Armed with an array of nonsensical song titles (“Skid Marks the Spot”) showing they don’t take themselves too serious with a bevy of snappy up-tempo heaviness (“Keg Stand and Deliver”) that shows they mean business (“Crushing Defeat”), the latest album by Barn Burner renders a headbanging good time despite the frivolity they display.
