EXES FOR EYES
THE AMSLER GRID
YEAR OF THE SUN

Canadian troupe Exes for Eyes fuse gritty groove metal a la Pantera and Pro-Pain with the synthetic modern metal styling of bands like Scar Symmetry and Soilwork on their nine-track debut THE AMSLER GRID. While this unit’s durable stance isn’t exactly fresh or groundbreaking, this outfit does an admirable job of shifting mood and tempo to include intriguing interludes in between their sledgehammer riffs and driving rhythms (“Romanticize the Struggle”, “A Horrible Mistake”), all the while balancing both melody and sheer heaviness to comprise a predictable yet enjoyable strand of metal that you can both sing along to and bang your head to (“Dig for Higher Ground”). Keeping things simple yet effectively heavy throughout (“Stop Thinking, Start Feeling”), Exes for Eyes showcase a potpourri of heavy sounds that fans of the aforementioned bands should have no problem digging.
