TOOTH AND NAIL
Mewithoutyou's 12-track release is a weird mixture of post hardcore posturing and stream of consciousness vocalizations, but there's a whole lot more going on within this quintet that that. While the comparisons to At The Drive In would be obvious upon first listening, the two band's shared volatility is really all that there is. Nonetheless, this Pennsylvania outfit strives to mend the fence between hard rocking indie music and that hybrid punk hardcore sound that sells out Warped Tours every summer. The brothers Weiss, vocals and lead guitars respectively, challenge the listener incessantly with swirling riffs and thought provoking rants, sometimes coming out like a jagged Glassjaw ("We Know Who Our Enemies Are"), and at others becoming an ethereal entity like Mazzy Star on steroids ("Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt"). For those that like an injected intelligence inside harder edged music, look no further than Mewithoutyou.
