THERE CAME A LION
TOOTH AND NAIL
Coheed and Cambria meets Saosin with hints of Fenix TX best describes the musical output from Ivoryline and their latest disc THERE CAME A LION. Falsetto male vocals don't help the comparisons as much as this quintet's penchant for cramming prog rock excess into jangly power pop structures on cuts like "And the Truth Will End This" does. At the very least, this Texas-based troupe fuses the best pieces from their influences, dials up a fiery array of passionate vocals and exhilarating guitarwork, and pounds out a heartfelt progressive punk record in the process that gushes commercial appeal without an ounce of sellout in sight. As the aptly-titled "Remind Me I'm Alive" suggests, Ivoryline and their collection of well-crafted songs bursting with hooks and heart provide not so much as a wake up call but a warning shot to the rest of the scene to quit posturing and get cracking to raise the musical bar.
