Florida trio From the Ashes pound out 12 tracks of metallic fury packed with intricate riffs and powerful rhythms on their latest endeavor AWAKENED. Taking influence from bands ranging from Megadeth and Machine Head to Soulfly and Strapping Young Lad, the pummeling percussion and frenetic fretwork heard on "Hallowed", the power metal gallop of "From the Ashes" and the relentless onslaught a la The Haunted of "My Nightmare" really hammers home this band's unwavering metal attack. Not only can these guys shred with the best of them, they also can take it down without losing integrity on "Wicked Souls", a soulful song that could've been a Black Label Society outtake. From the Ashes' interesting mix of thrash and groove metal should appeal to those into bands like Byzantine, Sevendust, Life of Agony, and Shadows Fall.
