THE CLAY PEOPLE
WAKING THE DEAD
The long-running hodgepodge metal clan The Clay People return with their industrially-tinged sound on the 15-track WAKING THE DEAD. Showcasing a versatility that finds the band genre-jumping from '90s alt-metal on "Supersonic Overdrive" to the Godsmack meets Goth rock anthem of "Lost", this group's wide array of influences at times becomes scattershot and is bound to not strike chords with all people all the time. Yet this quintet manages to blend it all in without forcing it down your throat, allowing the serviceable solo on "Be Mine", the sinewy groove of "Secret", the electronically enhanced darkwave rock of "Failure", and the Disturbed-like fist pumpers "Waking the Dead" and "Never Give Up" to reveal the eclectic identity of this band steeped in the dimmer and more ambient side of the rock spectrum.
