CAUGHT IN A TRAP
RATS GET FAT
No frills, hard-nosed, and straight up menacing NYHC is what the Queens, NY quartet Caught in a Trap bring to the dance on their 14-track disc RATS GET FAT. Steamrolling and smashing their way through the malaise of what is passed off as hardcore these days with a bevy of upbeat yet slightly beatdown old school jams laden with angsty guitars and blue-collar brutality, cuts like "Privilege" and "Summer's Eve" pack enough punch to recreate a vintage CB's matinee vibe anywhere these guys perform, while tracks like "Turn Your Back" and "All Out of Tomorrows" resonate the early days of hardcore's unbridled spirit. Keeping the disc for the most part fast and heavy yet fortified with a slew of killer hooks, Caught in a Trap demonstrates their no-nonsense approach with a genuinely wry wit that can only be found from a band from the boroughs who cut their teeth in the scene and were present when bands like Cro-Mags, AF, and Sick of It All were holding it down.
